For the week of September 17-23, the number one song on the Billboard top 100 is We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together by Taylor Swift. One More Time by Maroon 5 is at number 2; Whistle by Flo Rida is at number 3; Some Night by fun at number 4; Lights by Ellie Goulding at number 5; Blow Me (One Last Kiss) by P!nk at number 6; As Long As You Love Me by Justin Bieber featuring Big Sean at number 7; Everybody Talks by Neon Trees at number 8; Good Time by Owl City & Carly Rae Jepsen at number 9; and Too Close by Alex Clare at number 10.
We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together is a song both recorded and written by Taylor Swift. Max Martin and Shellback also helped with the writing of the song. The song was released as the lead song from her fourth studio album Red on August 13, 2012 by Big Machine Records. The lyrics of the song are about Swift’s frustration towards an ex-boyfriend who wants to rekindle their relationship. The song was inspired by rumors that Swift and an ex were reuniting. These rumors came from a friend of one of Swift’s exes.
The song became an instant success as the fastest selling digital single. This was the biggest sales week ever for a song by a woman in music history with 623,000 copies, beating Kesha’s “Tik Tok” and Lady Gaga’s “Born this Way”. The song was also Swift’s first song to reach number on the Billboard Hot 100. Needless to say, Taylor Swift has completed a milestone in her career.
