With a big year in the music industry, the 55th Annual Grammy Awards is guaranteed to be a huge success. The show will be aired on February 10, 2013. The competition is very intense due to the plethora of incredible music released throughout the year. Kelly Clarkson, Fun., Frank Ocean, and Mumford and Sons are only a few artists of many contending for a Grammy.
The Black Keys' El Camino, Fun.'s Some Nights, Mumford & Sons' Babel, Frank Ocean's Channel Orange, and Jack White's Blunderbuss are all in the race for album of the year. Mumford & Sons' album Babel is favored to win Album of the Year because of its mellow, yet not too mellow, sound. One critic described Babel as "more of a pleasant rowboat ride down a scenic creek", and that is apparently what people liked.
One big category is Best New Artist, which gives a Grammy to a newcomer that people feel has shown great skill and sound. The artists that have been nominated in this category are Alabama Shakes, Fun., Hunter Hayes, The Lumineers, and Frank Ocean. Many people predict that Frank Ocean will win the Grammy, but others believe in Hunter Hayes. The Grammy "track record" shows that the most unknown artists win.
What has many people wondering is the Record of the Year category. The nominations are all good, which makes a prediction very hazy. The nominees are "Lonely Boy" by The Black Keys, "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)" by Kelly Clarkson, "We Are Young" by Fun. featuring Janelle Monae, "Somebody That I Used To Know" by Gotye featuring Kimbra, "Thinkin Bout You" by Frank Ocean, and "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" by Taylor Swift. Though all songs are popular, there is still a prediction that Gotye's "Somebody That I Used To Know" will win because of its simple instrumentation and the fact that it popped up out of nowhere.
Tune in to CBS on February 10th to see who comes out on top.
